The Sidney Prize is an award for undergraduate writing which most nearly meets the high standards of originality and integrity set by the late Professor of English Sidney Cox. It is established by a small group of his former students. The Committee will select a manuscript each year from among those submitted. The winning piece will be published in The Dartmouth.

The prize is awarded to an outstanding student in the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in English who has been enrolled for at least one term and has made significant progress in their writing, as judged by their professor. The winner will receive a cash prize of $100, plus an invitation to read their work at the Dartmouth Library.

In order to be eligible for the prize, the candidate must have completed an honours thesis or a master’s dissertation in the Department of English, as well as having been enrolled in the University at the time that the prize is awarded. In the case of a master’s thesis, the dissertation must have been submitted for assessment within the period from the first year to the final year of the degree.

Awarded to a student who has been enrolled for at least one semester and has made significant progress in their research, as judged by their supervisor. The prize is for a thesis that demonstrates an innovative approach to social theory in support of progressive causes, in particular around class, gender and the environment.

Qualifications:

To be eligible for this prize, the student must have completed an Honours or a Masters with Dissertation in the Department of Political Economy at the University of Sydney during the period in which the Prize is awarded. The nomination must be from the academic staff in the Department of Political Economy, and include a short description why you believe the nominee deserves this award. This could be about a major achievement, struggle financially, ambitions for an ambitious career, requirement for start-up funding etc.

The Sidney Prize is an award for students who have made significant progress in their study and whose work displays the qualities of integrity, honesty, originality and a commitment to scholarship. It is established by a small group from the Dartmouth English Association. The winner will receive a cash prize, and their work will be published in The Dartmouth.

Founded in 1930 by Dr H.M. Moran of Macquarie Street, Sydney, the prize is awarded to a student who has shown proficiency in 3000-level units of Italian. It is also awarded to a part-time student who has shown proficiency in the same units, and to a first-year student for achieving a good standard of performance in Italian.

This prize is awarded to a student who has achieved the highest overall academic result in their first or second year of study in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at the University of Sydney. It is awarded on the recommendation of the Chair or their nominated delegate. The prize is awarded each year based on academic merit, and is divided evenly between the winners.
