The hk prize is the world’s largest annual award to recognise and support changemakers. The winner and the rest of the laureates will receive a total of HK$480 million, half of which is an unrestricted project fund that can be used to scale up their work around the world. The prize is given by the Yidan Foundation, which was established by Hong Kong philanthropist Li Ka Shing.
The first prize is HK$1 billion, which can be split between the winners of up to ninety-three tickets. The second prize is HK$100 million, which can be divided among up to eighteen tickets. And the third prize is HK$50 million, which can be split between up to twelve tickets.
A record prize pool will be offered for the 2022/23 season, bolstered by a number of innovative initiatives, including staggering increases in long-distance prize money and a new bonus structure that rewards horse owners and promotes the development of quality long-distance runners.
For example, the organisers of this year’s Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon will offer a special incentive award of up to HK$10,000 to permanent residents who finish the race in under 3 hours for men and under 3 hours 30 minutes for women. This is in addition to the HK$6 million that medal-winning local runners will receive.
Another new initiative is the HK Global Development Prize, which will give Hong Kong residents a platform to share their ideas on how to contribute to Hong Kong’s international development efforts and help shape its role in the future. The organiser, Generocity, has already received submissions from all over the world.
It is open to researchers at universities and other research institutions in Hong Kong, as well as overseas scholars who have published their research in peer-reviewed journals. Submissions can be on any topics that are relevant to the study of Hong Kong and its relations with China, Asia and beyond.
Applicants must submit the article in English and provide a short abstract (150 words) in Chinese. The submission deadline is 31 July. More details can be found here.
