They can be selfless caregivers, good Samaritans or even those who have survived against all odds. They are the ones who help us build a more harmonious society and contribute to world civilisation.
The Hong Kong Studies Prize is an annual award that was established in 2022 to recognise excellence in research on global Hong Kong issues and the development of new theories, concepts and methodologies for studying Hong Kong and its connections to China, Asia and beyond.
Winners of the prize will receive HK$10,000 and their school will get HK$20,000. Students must be nominated by their teachers to enter this competition. Each teacher can nominate up to 10 students. Please refer to the T&C for more information.
During the last Paris Olympics, the Hong Kong delegation took home a total of 13 medals, including gold and silver in track and field events and kitesurfing. Now, the team’s top athletes are looking to do the same at the 2024 Games in the city of light. However, a closer look at the prize money they could potentially receive reveals that the amount is nowhere near what it would be for a gold medallist in other countries.
Established in 2007, the prize is dedicated to memory of Professor George B. Endacott, who played a leading role in the re-establishment of the Department of History after the Second World War. It encourages scholars to engage in planning history and expands IPHS membership to East Asian regions.
The BOCHK Science and Technology Innovation Prize is a merit-based award sponsored by The Bank of China (Hong Kong) Limited. The prize aims to recognise scientists and research teams from Hong Kong universities or those in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area who have made outstanding scientific achievements with high economic or social impact.
Its 2024 laureates were recognised for their work in artificial intelligence and robotics, life and health, new materials and energy, and advanced manufacturing and fintech. Ng Siew Chien won the prize in the life and science category for her noninvasive tests for early diagnosis of gastrointestinal diseases and autism spectrum disorders, while Zhang Hua, Chen Shih-chi and Wang Cong were recognised for their breakthroughs in phase engineering of nanomaterials, 3D micro- and nanofabrication, and innovative data and AI security technologies.
The Society for Hong Kong Studies (SHKS) is delighted to announce that two of our members have won the IBP 2023 Best Article Prize on Global Hong Kong Studies!
