In line with its mission to foster the study of planning history worldwide, IPHS organises a number of awards and prizes. These honour senior and junior scholars for their outstanding research in the fields of urbanism, history and planning, especially in cities since the late nineteenth century. Winners of the hk prize are recognised for their contribution to the field and have the opportunity to join the IPHS fellowship.

During the last 40 years, the Mark Six lottery has brought hope and many benefits to Hong Kong people, contributing a great deal to society through the government’s Lottery duty and lottery fund. In this year of celebration, the HKJC is giving back to the public with special “snowball” draws, where a percentage of the total prize money will be added to the 1st division prize. In order to ensure the fairness of the draw, employees of HKJC’s security and customer service departments will rigorously check and test everything, from boxing to transport, and the balls used in the draw are measured, weighed and examined by X-ray on a regular basis. The same set of balls will not be used for two consecutive draws.

Prof. Wang was a four-time recipient of the Department’s Teaching Award, and he has also won eight CUHK courseware and teaching development grants, four General Research Fund grants from the Research Grants Council of Hong Kong, and one project grant from the University’s International Partnership Development Programme. He co-convened the 20th biennial conference of the IPHS in Hong Kong, and curated an exhibition at the CUHK University Library on ‘The History of Flags and Maps of Southeast Asia’.

The hk prize is a major source of information on the history of Hong Kong and its relations with China, Asia and beyond. It is essential that it remains transparent and trustworthy, and it must always be free of partisanship. This is the only way to safeguard its integrity, and to keep it a source of reliable information for all Hong Kong people. The hk prize aims to provide the best possible information on the history of Hong Kong, so that the people who live here can make informed choices about how they want their city to develop in the future. It also serves as a valuable tool for students, scholars and the media in their research and discussion on Hong Kong history. The hk prize will continue to play an important role in the development of Hong Kong. It is important to remember that the hk prize was created to promote scholarship and discussion about Hong Kong and its relations with China, Asia, and beyond. This is a legacy that we will carry forward into the future. In the coming decades, the hk prize will remain one of the most significant and prestigious sources of information on Hong Kong’s history. I look forward to a future in which the hk prize continues to inspire debate and enrich our lives.
