Hong Kong Pools – The Best Places to Cool Off in the HeatHong Kong Pools – The Best Places to Cool Off in the Heat
With sweltering heat and humidity, Hong Kong summer can make you want to hide away in your air-conditioned home or dip yourself in an ice-cold bath. But don’t let the blazing sun keep you from making the most of this season. Instead, soak up some vitamin D by cooling off at a hk pool. And we’re not talking your average municipal pools – some of these swimming spots boast some of the city’s best views, too.
Public swimming pools are managed by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD). The city has 44 public pools, including nine on Hong Kong Island, 13 in Kowloon and 22 in the New Territories. Most of the pools are outdoor but some are indoor.
Most public swimming pools have lanes reserved for swimming instruction, and most pools provide classes for all ages of swimmers – from beginners to advanced. However, about 20 of the city’s pools have told the local swim clubs that they will not open all of their lanes or facilities for swimming instruction this summer due to a shortage of lifeguards.
The YMCA Bridges Street Centre in central HK is a great place to go for a swim as it has both an outdoor pool and an indoor pool. This pool is a bit more affordable than other swimming pools in the city and also hosts swimming lessons for kids.
Another good choice is the Ma On Shan Swimming Complex. This pool is situated at the seafront and looks out to Tolo Harbour. It has a main pool along with spectator stands, as well as a training and teaching pool. It’s a popular destination for families with children and the four waterslides are sure to entertain them.
One of the more unique hk pools is the one at the JW Marriott in Admiralty. This 25-metre infinity pool is perfect for a few laps or just relaxing amid serene sunrises and sunsets. And if you get hungry, there’s a restaurant right next to the pool so you can grab a bite without even leaving the water.
K11 Artus is another hotel that offers a dazzling pool – but this time with a view. The turquoise Balinese stone pool is perched high above the city and evokes vacation bliss, especially when you’re soaking up the views of Victoria Harbour.
But there’s more to this resort than just its pools. The hotel also has spacious rooms and a trendy rooftop bar with spectacular views of the city. So whether you’re looking for a relaxing stay or an adventurous getaway, this is the spot to be.
