The 2023 hk prize is currently accepting applications from Southeast Asian residents, mainland Chinese and the rest of the world. The contest will be divided into three waves, with Southeast Asian applicants being selected first, followed by mainland Chinese and then international residents.
This year, the theme of the HK prize is “Our Changing World,” encouraging participants to explore the various aspects of global evolution. From socially, culturally and technologically to the environment, the prize seeks unique interpretations from a broad range of artists. A record-breaking 102 pieces were submitted, including established and emerging Hong Kong artists, community artists and youth artists. Some of the artworks focus on themes such as refugees, labour migration and gender identity.
In addition to the top award of HK$500,000, there will be two runner-up prizes of HK$1 million each and seven special awards. This is the seventh edition of the HK prize which will be held at the Hong Kong Palace Museum in October.
In the field of journalism, China Daily won a total of 113 awards at this year’s News Awards, including four arts and culture journalism prizes for its series examining Hong Kong’s efforts to become a cultural hub. Senior reporter Xi Tianqi also won three runner-ups in the Best Headline category for her investigative report In the Green Fast Lane, which highlighted the city’s efforts to speed up adoption of electric vehicles.
